Tulip Trousers...
...are having a moment.
It has not escaped me that everyone and their dog are wearing this trousers shape right now.
Genie/Bubble/Balloon/whatever you’re calling them- we first launched this shape (the Tulip Trouser) in 2021, inspired by Victorian pantaloons, and I’ve been wearing mine ever since (please don’t stop wearing yours once this trend passes- this is a classic shape, IMO.)

Since this style is everywhere right now, may I suggest to you that you opt for the sustainable/ethically made version (ahem, ours!) Our version also happens to be super versatile, comfy and the PERFECT balance of easy and smart.

Moodboard breakdown…
1- Dressed up. All black everything. Never fails.
2- I always find inspo in the weirdest of places- kind of want to dress like this table scape- cosy, eclectic vibes.
3- Co-ord top and bottom, layered with formal shirt. Obsessed.
4- Relaxed. With tee, flats and jumper.
5- Dressy and matchy, matchy.
6- Paired with bare feet, a tan, gold jewellery and an oversized tee.
7- Smart for work (loving the tied up shirt.)
8- One to note for later in the season- pop socks with black ballet flats.
9- Another cosy table scape living in my brain just now that is begging to be morphed into outfit-inspo.
10- Trainers and socks. Many an interesting combo to explore here.
Here’re the looks I’ve got for ya…
1- All black, Dressy.
This is the kind of look you can pair with slightly dishevelled (even scruffy) hair and just a hint of make up (think tinted moisturiser, a little blush for glow and a slick of mascara) and still feel chic. The trousers speak loudly about the wearer’s confidence and sense of self- means everything else can just be pretty much as-is.
The whole look feels very devil-may-care/unbothered/effortless-dressy (my favourite kind.) Wouldn’t have the same effect with a black jean or tailored trouser, methinks- it’s the the Tulip Trousers that do something special here.
Any slightly dressy top will do, as long as it’s black (for this particular look.) Here’s another iteration:

There’s nothing more satisfying than finding fresh new ways of styling something you already own.

I’ve just paired with a years old shirt layered under. The heavy, black shoes are important IMO (as with the original look) for lending some weight and grounding the whole.
Add in a little sparkle.
I’ll bounce around the moodboard a bit, of I may. Next I pulled on a gorgeous, fitted corset top (bought secondhand two or three years ago) with the same fawn trousers in order to have a go at the afore mentioned tonal-dressy look.
This pairing would be super simple to recreate in black (and how gorgeous would it be in white!!) but I gave it a go in a neutral colourway, as with the inspo pic:
In all honestly, I’ve mainly worn this trouser shape over the last two or so years for daytime, but there’s something so incredibly chic about this style dressed up with heels.
It’s all about the way you feel in the Tulips. They need very little accompaniment. An oversized shirt and a heel is enough. A bit of collarbone and a sparkly earring is plenty. The trousers do all the heavy lifting.
… but if we’re talking about versatility, the Tulip Trousers for day are a dream.
This is my not-working-from-home-but-want-to-be-casual take:
A softly crumpled linen shirt, my current favourite sweatshirt (the stripe is smarter for workwear, IMO) and (smart-ish) trainers (a brogue/lace up boot or loafer/moccasin would also be grand here.)
It’s all about that squishy crinkle at the ankle. I love it.
