The Recap - October 2024
All the things I’ve been indulging in, learning, lusting after and grateful for this month.
The Recap! …
…My top ten each month. Everything I’ve been wearing, listening to, been motivated by, what has given me comfort. The things I’ve been indulging in, learning, lusting after and grateful for. This month I chat about the October uniform I wore on repeat, what’s launching later this week, a personal breakthrough moment, my perfect Sunday, the make-up I’m about to stock up on and our dreamy trip to Paris.
…and so, without further ado:
1- Wearing - I have a definite uniform of late, and it goes a bit like this…
Pull on Jeans (often patterned, all the ones I wear on rotation are very old, I’m afraid.)
Add a base layer (almost always white and from Everlane)
Top with THE SIMPLE BLOUSE. This will be the hardest working, little top in your wardrobe. I have 4. One is a past season Bramble Check (IYKYK) and the other three are available on the site: Rosehip Stripe here (mine’s new to the wardrobe, hence only one photo.) Chocolate Cross Stitch here (about to sell out for the final time, this is worn on repeat) and Candy Checks here (staple through summer and proving super handy for an autumnal colour-pick up, I think I’ll wear this one all year round.) See also the Flutter Blouse in Blue Dots for a similar look if you’re into blue (I’ve just restocked a small handful.)
I finish with boots or trainers depending on what the weather’s doing.
Simple. Effective. Never boring.

2- Soundtrack - Archbishop Harold Holmes, Jack White.
It’s a dance round the kitchen with the kids kind of track. Very October-y too.
3- Motivator - POP UPS AND EVENTS AND PREP, OH MY!
My word for October (one that I’ll be taking through November) is definitely PREP. And here at The Pink Studio, we have been prepping our arses off! We. Are. On. It.
We kickstarted the festive events with a long-anticipated Open Studio evening here at The Pink Studio. Next up is the Festive Web Launch over on Stalf.co.uk (that one’s THIS FRIDAY, the 15th November) and then we’re back up to Edinburgh on the 8th December, after waaaay too long, for the Endless Love Makers Market.
Check out our Events page here for all the details.
A snapshot up there of the Studio looking suitably gorgeous and twinkly a couple of hours pre-opening.
If you’re keen for a peek at what we’ve been prepping for the past weeks/months, HERE IT IS!
Feast your eyes on our latest drop, launches online Friday 15th November…
4- Comfort - Sundays in Autumn.
This time of year, usually when we’re maybe 6-8 weeks from Christmas, I have a moment of realisation that we only have a handful of spare weekends until the new year and I initiate my bad habit of ramming stuff into our Saturdays like there’s no tomorrow. A trip to see Christmas lights here, a festive museum run there, visits from friends, Christmas parties: they all get crammed into our Saturdays…
…and then I preserve Sunday at all costs!!
Autumnal Sundays are a precious resource and one I absolutely luxuriate in.
My perfect Sunday looks like:
A slow-er start (although rarely am I up after 8am, just programmed that way, annoyingly.)
A run through the Wolds. A weekend run is super rare for me and if I’ve squeezed one in on a Sunday, it means I’ve been able to keep the day super-free.
A hot shower and a face mask.
Pancakes for breakfast.
Some kind of telly with Sam and the boys. Often at this time of year we’re catching up on Strictly (of course Jude is obsessed, but you already knew that!) Telly under a blanket on an Autumnal afternoon just feels like the most perfectly indulgent recharge.
Some kind of festive hot drink, doesn’t have to be pumkin-spiced but if it’s charged with a little alcohol, all the better. Think mulled wine or spiked hot chocolate.
Twinkly lights and a lit fire.
1st December falls on a Sunday this year, and that means tree, baubles, glass of port and singing with the kids. First Sunday in December is potentially my favourite day of the year.
One of Sam’s roast dinners. Think honey carrots, sprouts with butter and bacon, cauli cheese, roast chicken with butter, garlic and herbs, leeks, crispy roast potatoes, yorkshire puds and lashings of gravy.
A view like this one:
Gingerbread house by the boys, festive flowers from one of my longest-standing clients, gifted after our Open Studio (yes, that’s right, Stalf has the BEST customers on the planet.)
5- View - My kids at halloween. I know the moment’s technically past, but let’s just have a minute for Halloween. You already know that we’ve been going whole-hog at Halloween in our household since my eldest, Jude was old enough to express his acute devotion to all things spooky, add in an aptly-timed birthday and what you get is a full on extravaganza. I’ll let the visuals tell the story.
