The Recap - April 2024
All the things I’ve been indulging in, learning, lusting after and grateful for this month.
The Recap! …
…My top ten each month. Everything I’ve been wearing, listening to, been motivated by, what has given me comfort. The things I’ve been indulging in, learning, lusting after and grateful for. This month I share postcards from our holiday in Greece, an intense duality I’ve been feeling in day to day life, the shoes I cannot get out of my head and what’s next on my Stalf wish list.
…and so, without further ado…
1- Wearing - COLOUR, It’s pink-heavy (what did you expect) with a healthy side of lilac and blue.
My top items for April have been-
Cardi in Candy Floss (last chance to order before this one disappears.)
Cardi in Misty Fleece (the cosiest of all my cosies.)
Sweatpants (I’ve worn mainly Candyfloss and Grey Marl but I also have Black which I love.)
You can browse through the past couple of What I Wore articles for more in depth discussion about my outfit inspo of late.
2- Soundtrack - Ali, Vieux Farka Touré & Khruangbin
My love of Khruangbin knows no bounds. I recently discovered the album Ali with Vieux Farka Touré, (how it took me so long to uncover I will never know.) Such a great one. My fave track is Diarabi.
Allow me to paint the picture of a perfect moment from this Sunday...
The first day at home as a family (with no plans) in nearly a month. A day spent carrying out mundane tasks, the kids playing in the sunshine, a glass of wine on the terrace watching my fiancé cook a Sunday roast. I mentioned to Kiki (the dog) that my mum and dad were coming for tea and she immediately hopped into the window to watch out for them, basking in the buttery early evening sunshine spilling in through the window. Theres the tinkle of cutlery and plates from the kitchen. A happy calm.
If that doesn’t set the scene for you, here’s the actual video…
3- Motivator -
There is nothing quite like a holiday (in a place unlike your home in this case) to help you appreciate your day to day. I loved the heat of Crete, the dry dustiness blowing in from North Africa which is so unlike the cold, bone-clinging damp of the UK. The lazing on the beach, the indulgence of it all (see below.) The golden sunsets and seashells on the beach. But there is always something that makes me happy about stepping off the plane and landing back home.
Call me odd.
It’s the chill in the air, even the damp has a way of whacking you in the face and waking you up that I quite enjoy. It’s the solid reliability of our family routines, getting out the door first thing and running up a hill, the cosiness of a hot water bottle, full duvet and quilt layered up on an evening, the desire for a steaming cup of tea, warming my hands on the mug.
Only releasing myself from the day to day constraints, the mundane, everyday “stuff” can make me truly appreciate it.
(continues in points 6 & 7.)
4- Comfort - This may well be an unpopular opinion…
